Late last year NASA released 2054 new pictures of the surface of Mars, revealing some beautiful, surprisingly odd & fascinating features.

Mars has long been known as the Red Planet. Long before telescopes existed. Is that for real or did someone just make it up? Well, its a lot of Rocks & Soil that, sure enough, are pretty red in tone, but its not all exactly the same.

The HiRISE camera aboard NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) transforms subtle differences of soils into a rainbow of colors, while the variations in topography are quite mesmerizing.

The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) & HiRISE have been shooting pictures of the surface of Mars from space for 10 years. These images allow Scientist to examine the planets features & geology in great detail.
